We share food given by the community to those who need it

Please contact us if you or someone you know can use a little help. We can offer emergency help at any time, outside the times that the centres are open. If you’ve come here to offer help, then please look at the Give Help page.

Surplus food at a very low price. WSCC and UKHarvest - Bring a bag and fill it with food for a donation that you can afford.

In October 2022 the County Council launched a pilot project to encourage people to take advantage of surplus food rescue services, which in turn works to reduce the amount of edible food that ends up in people’s household rubbish bins.

This scheme is running from two Community Food Hubs locally, at Southwick and Worthing, on just one morning each month. The original programme has been extended for a further 12 months, running once a month until April 2025. See the dates and locations on the WSCC web page and our calendar.

It’s about more than the food

Everyone has been hit by the health and energy crises over recent years that have caused loss of income and sudden rises in costs, which can both make normal debts become crippling. Many people who were doing just fine have been suddenly tipped over the edge into financial hardship, perhaps for the first time in their lives. Do take a look at our Finance links page, which lists several helpful debt and benefit resources.

Benefits

You may never have needed to apply for state benefits, and may not even have thought about whether you might qualify. Turn2Us and CAP can point you to a benefits calculator that can be used on line to find out what benefits are available to you. If you can’t get on line, or you would like help finding your way through it, we can help you at the Adur West Family Hub if you get in touch with us first. Just use our contact page.

Heat or Eat?

At this time of year, people from all walks of life and ages can find themselves thinking, “Should I heat or eat?”. If you are on a pre-payment (electricity and/or gas) meter, we may be able to help with Fuel Bank Foundation energy top-ups.

For dogs

For your loved ones who don’t eat human food, we know that the Dogs Trust in Shoreham runs a Dog Food Bank, open every day from 0900 - 1600. Near to Shoreham Airport.
